Who should get the COVID-19 vaccination?

Everyone should get vaccinated if they are able to!

The COVID-19 Virus has proven to be very contagious and transmissable, potentially causing severe respiratory symptoms that requires hospitalisation, intensive care, and even death.

Vaccination “trains” our immune system to fight the virus, protects us from developing severe symptoms, and helps reduce transmission.

Vaccination will help our community reach “herd immunity” against this pandemic.

How to protect yourself and others from COVID-19?

To protect yourself and others, it is important to stay up to date and follow the current Public Health Advice, which may include:

  • Practicing good hand-hygiene

  • Maintain physical social distancing of at least 1.5m

  • Stay home and get tested if you experience any respiratory symptoms including fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, shortness of breath and any loss/change in taste or smell

We ask all patients and customers adhere to the above, in addition to other Covid Safe measures within our pharmacy.

How many doses will I need?

You will need TWO doses for your initial course, with additional booster(s) strongly recommended in accordance with regulatory health advice.

Patients that are immunocomprimised* may require an additional dose.

The interval* between each dose will depend on the vaccine.

Speak to our pharmacists or your GP for further advice.

Can I get the flu and COVID-19 vaccination at the same time?

YES. The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) has updated advice that both vaccines can be co-administered together.

Covid-19 and Influenza are different viruses that both can result in serious health complications.

Vaccinating for one only will not offer protection against the other, which is why it is important keep your immunisations up to date against both.

Please speak to our pharmacists or your GP if you require further advice.

What is involved in a Covid-19 vaccination appointment?

A qualified immuniser will administer the vaccinate in our private counselling room. No prescription will be required.

Please arrive 10 minutes before your appointment to complete a consent form and prescreening. This can also be completed via our online booking system.

You will need to remain within the pharmacy for at least 15 minutes after your vaccination for observation.

What are possible side effects?

All Covid-19 vaccinations administered must meet the TGA’s strict criteria for efficacy and safety. Side effects are usually mild and subside in a few days, which may include:

  • Muscle aches

  • Fever

  • Pain or swelling at the injection site

  • Tiredness

For side-effects relating to specific a specific Covid vaccine, please speak to our pharmacists or your GP.

How were Covid-19 vaccines developed so quickly?

Fighting Covid-19 has involved global efforts, resources, funding and collaboration between regulatory bodies, pharmaceutical companies and scientist.

This has allowed vaccines to be developed in “overlapping” parallel stages, as opposed to consecutive stages. No stages have been skipped, compromised or omitted.

Furthermore, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) only approve medications and vaccines that meet our Australia’s strict safety and efficacy criteria through rigorous testing.

*Subject to pharmacist advice and pre-screening in accordance with current regulatory health advice. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment.
